Ministries

Heights Community Church has many different ministries that make up the church. We believe that you have to be willing to minister to all groups for that is the calling of the Christian church. These ministries allow for Christian development for all ages.

Sunday Small Groups

The heartbeat of our church can be heard in our Sunday Small Groups. Committed Group Leaders provide teaching for all ages every Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. There are friendly people in Welcome Centers to offer assistance in finding just the right place for you and your family. We urge all our members to belong to a Sunday Small Group as a part of their spiritual growth. We invite you to visit our classes and find one in which you feel comfortable for your spiritual growth.

Weeknight Small Groups

At Heights Community Church, we believe faith development occurs better in circles rather than rows.  Small groups offer participants the opportunity to learn from one another, be exposed to some of today’s best Christian writers and speakers, and grow in the Lord. Limited to no more than sixteen participants, most groups meet for six to eight week-long studies. By offering short-term group studies, one can commit to a convenient but intensive discipleship experience that will be rewarded by having deeper connections with others in the congregation and a better understanding of Scripture and its application to daily life. The relaxed and enjoyable setting enhances the discussion and enjoyment of the group.

At HCC, we offer four periods of small group experiences – fall, winter, spring and summer. Small groups are promoted in advance and allow for ample time to sign-up and be a part of what many consider one of the best ministries at HCC. If you have never participated in a small group, try one! If small groups are a consistent part of your faith journey, then welcome others to experience one with you.

Music Ministry

At Heights Community Church we offer two different worship services on Sunday morning, one at 8:45 AM and the other at 10:30 AM.

  • The 8:45 service is an intimate, meditative time with classical hymns played on a pipe organ.
  • The second service at 10:30 is an uplifting service with contemporary worship music and some hymns. In this service the worship team leads the congregation each week, accompanied by piano, keyboard, guitar, bass and percussion.

Whatever your musical level may be we can find the right fit for your talent at our church.  There are opportunities for instrumentalists, soloists or people interested in joining a small or large group of singers.  We are always excited and look forward to including more new people that have a love for worship to any of these groups listed below.  If interested, please contact Melia Garber at (540) 761-0726 or mgarber@heightschurch.info.

Missions

Heights Community Church is committed to being on mission in direct response to Jesus Christ’s calling. We participate in missions and service in a variety of ways and provide opportunities for those in our church to engage. Listed below are some of our mission opportunities.

Family Promise of Roanoke Valley

HCC has been a support congregation for the Family Promise of the Roanoke Valley ministry since 2013. This ministry serves families who are homeless by providing them temporary housing, counseling, and support. Through FPRV, we have been privileged to share this responsibility with a host congregation, Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.

Language Mission Churches

HCC has been an incubator for language mission churches. Over a decade ago, we hosted our first Spanish-speaking congregation and then five years ago hosted a Haitian congregation in our church. Providing our church as a place for mission churches to grow and develop is a blessing for us.

Food Bank

HCC sponsors the Christian Soldiers Food Bank located in southeast Roanoke. Through the leadership of our former youth minister, Rev. Rick Pinkerman, we continue to partner with Rick with volunteers and accounting support.

Prison Ministry: Kairos

HCC sponsors financially and with volunteers the Kairos Prison Ministry of Virginia. The team that we support serves the Augusta Correctional Facility.

Financial

Through our operating budget and special offerings, we provide financial support to the ministries of our denominational partners, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and the Baptist General Association of Virginia. We also support local ministries.

Monthly Mission Action

Every month at HCC, we have a monthly mission action emphasis that supports a variety of ministries, both local and national. These are announced on a monthly basis as opportunities for HCC participants to become engaged in volunteerism and ministry support.

Mission Trips

Over the years, HCC participants have gone on mission trips in Virginia and globally. These mission immersion experiences become formative moments in the Christian journeys of those who go, whether youth or senior adults! Mission trips are planned annually and vary from year to year.
